Overview
San Pedro Sula is Honduras's business and manufacturing centre, a hot, flat city at the foot of the Merendón mountains. Its airport is the country's busiest, which makes it the arrival point for many travellers.
Few people stay long. Treat it as a gateway: spend a night, see the anthropology museum, then head for Lake Yojoa, the Caribbean coast or the Maya ruins of Copán. Take local advice on safety and use booked taxis.
