Overview
Honduras's capital fills a bowl of pine-covered hills in the central highlands, its old colonial core surrounded by steep, crowded neighbourhoods. Its altitude keeps it cooler than the coast.
Tegucigalpa is not an obvious holiday city, and it pays to be careful: stick to recommended areas and use booked taxis. But it has handsome churches and good museums, and the cloud forest and old mining villages just outside town are well worth the trip.
