Overview
Maribor, Slovenia's second city, lies on the Drava river between the forested Pohorje hills and rolling vineyards. It has a compact old centre, a long riverside promenade and a relaxed, university-town mood.
Wine is the thread running through everything here, from the world's oldest vine to the cellars beneath the streets. In winter, attention turns to the ski slopes that start on the edge of town.
