Overview
Bled is a small resort town on the shore of a glacial lake at the foot of the Julian Alps. A tiny island with a Baroque church sits in the middle of the water, and a medieval castle clings to a cliff above.
It is busy in summer, so get out early or late for the best of it. The lake path, the surrounding hills and nearby Lake Bohinj are all good reasons to stay a night or two.

Buses from Ljubljana take about an hour and a quarter, or take the train to Lesce-Bled station a few kilometres from the lake.
When to go
Summer is warm enough for swimming but crowded. May, June and September are quieter with good hiking weather, and winter can be crisp and snowy.
