Ride A Camel Into The Desert

What it is
Riding a camel into the dunes and sleeping at a desert camp is a classic Sahara experience.
How to do it
In Morocco, travel to Merzouga for Erg Chebbi or M'Hamid for Erg Chigaga and book a camel trek with a night in a camp.
Top tip
Bring a scarf for sand and sun, and warm layers for the night.
My experience
There are currently three types of surviving camel –
The one-humped Dromedary makes up 94% of the world’s camel population
The two-humped Bactrian makes up the remaining 6%
The Wild Bactrian camel is a separate species and is now critically endangered.
Although a camel is not known for being the most comfortable method of travel, there is something magical about exploring a desert with the best adapted animal to that environment.
