Overview
Grodno escaped the worst destruction of the Second World War, so it has something rare in Belarus: a real historic centre of churches, merchant houses and cobbled streets on a bluff above the Neman river.
Close to both Poland and Lithuania, it has a Catholic as well as Orthodox heritage and an unhurried, provincial charm. For a future visit, it is one of the most attractive towns in the country to explore on foot.
