Overview

Trinidad grew rich on sugar in the 1800s, then the money moved on and the town stood almost still. The result is a grid of cobbled streets lined with pastel houses, wrought-iron window grilles and grand plazas.

Between the mountains and the sea, it's an easy place to linger: mornings in museums, afternoons on the beach at Ancón and evenings of salsa on the steps by the church.

November to April is dry and warm. Summers are hot and humid, and the hurricane season runs from June to November.
