Overview

Andorra la Vella is the highest capital city in Europe, squeezed into a narrow valley in the Pyrenees between France and Spain. Most visitors come for duty-free shopping or the ski slopes, but there is a small old quarter worth seeking out.

The mountains start almost at the edge of town. Spend a day on the trails, an afternoon at the spa, and an evening eating Catalan mountain food.

Where to stay

Getting around

The centre is walkable, and frequent buses link the parishes and ski areas.

Direct buses run from Barcelona airport and take around three hours, and buses from Toulouse take a similar time.

When to go

Winter brings reliable snow from December to March. Summer is warm and green, ideal for hiking, while spring and autumn are quieter.
