Overview
Batumi is Georgia's seaside city on the Black Sea, close to the Turkish border. A long promenade runs beside pebble beaches, backed by a mix of 19th-century houses, playful modern towers and casinos.
It is at its best in the evenings, when the boulevard fills with families, cyclists and couples watching the lights. Just behind the city rise green, subtropical mountains, with waterfalls, old stone bridges and national parks within easy reach.

Getting around
The centre is walkable, the boulevard is great by bike, and taxis are cheap and easy to book with apps.
The airport is just south of the city, around 15 minutes by taxi. Trains from Tbilisi take around five hours.
When to go
Late spring and early autumn are warm, with fewer crowds. July and August are hot, humid and busy, and Batumi gets a lot of rain, especially in autumn.
