Overview
Yerevan is built from pink volcanic tuff, which gives the city a warm glow at sunset, and on clear days snow-capped Mount Ararat floats on the horizon. It is one of the world's oldest continuously inhabited cities, but its centre was largely laid out in the 20th century.
Life happens outdoors here, in parks, cafés and wine bars. It is also the perfect base for day trips to Armenia's ancient monasteries and mountains.
