Overview
Bosaso is a busy port on the Gulf of Aden in Puntland, north-eastern Somalia. It grew quickly in recent decades as a trading hub, shipping livestock across to Arabia and bringing in goods for the region.
There are few formal sights, but the coast and the mountains behind it are dramatic. Travel is not advised at present; this guide is written for a future, safer time.

The airport is close to the city, a short drive from the centre.
When to go
November to February is the least punishing time. From June to September, temperatures are extremely high and strong winds blow off the land.
