Overview
Pointe-Noire is the Republic of the Congo's economic capital, a busy oil and port city on the Atlantic coast. It is more relaxed than its industry suggests, with long beaches, seafood restaurants and a waterfront where locals gather at weekends.
The city's surroundings are the real highlight. Red sandstone gorges, the historic slave-trade port of Loango and a coastal national park full of wildlife all lie within a short drive.

Getting around
Blue taxis are the easiest way to get around the city. Hire a car and driver for trips to Diosso, Loango and the national park.
The airport is close to the city centre, a short taxi ride away.
When to go
The dry season from June to September is cooler and often overcast, the most comfortable time. October to May is hot and humid with heavy rain, while turtles nest on the beaches in the wetter months.
