Overview

Kingstown is the capital and port of Saint Vincent, a hilly, volcanic island at the head of the Grenadines chain. It is a working town of stone arcades, churches and a busy waterfront where ferries leave for the smaller islands.

Few tourists stay long, which gives it an authentic, unpolished feel. Use it to explore the island's rainforest and volcano, then sail south to Bequia and beyond.

Things to do

Where to stay

Getting around

Colourful minibuses run along the coast roads and are the cheapest way to get about. Taxis can be hired by the day. Drive on the left.

Argyle International is on the east coast, about 20 to 30 minutes from Kingstown by taxi.

When to go

The dry season from December to May is the best time to visit. The hurricane season runs from June to November. Vincy Mas, the island's carnival, peaks in early July.
