Overview

St. George's is one of the prettiest harbour towns in the Caribbean: red-roofed houses stacked up the hills around a horseshoe-shaped bay, with fishing boats and yachts tied up along the Carenage below.

It is small enough to explore on foot in a morning, and Grenada's best beach is only a short ride south. The island is known as the Spice Isle, and you will smell the nutmeg and cinnamon in the market and taste it in almost everything.

Getting around

Minibuses run on numbered routes from the town's bus terminal and are cheap and frequent by day. Taxis are plentiful; agree the fare before you set off.

The airport is about 20 minutes by taxi from St. George's, and a little less from Grand Anse.

When to go

The dry season runs from January to May. The rainy season brings short heavy showers, and hurricane season lasts from June to November. Spicemas, Grenada's carnival, fills the streets in August.
