Overview
Bridgetown is a small, lively capital on the sheltered south-west coast of Barbados, where colonial stone buildings, rum shops and a busy careenage sit a few minutes' walk from the beach.
The old town and its garrison are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, but the city wears its history lightly. Spend a morning on the streets, an afternoon swimming in Carlisle Bay, and an evening on the south coast with fried flying fish and a cold Banks beer.

Getting around
Blue government buses and privately run yellow buses and white ZR vans cover the coast roads cheaply and often. Taxis are unmetered, so agree a fare first.
Grantley Adams airport is on the south coast, around 25 to 30 minutes from Bridgetown by taxi.
When to go
December to April is the dry season, with sunshine and steady trade winds. The rest of the year is hotter and more humid, and June to November is hurricane season. Crop Over makes summer the liveliest time to visit.
