Overview
Yangon is Myanmar's largest city, a former colonial capital where gilded stupas rise above crumbling British-era streets, tea shops spill onto pavements and monks in maroon robes walk the morning alms round.
This guide is written for a time when travel to Myanmar is advisable again. When it is, Yangon is usually the first stop, and a few days here give a gentle introduction to the country's food, faith and everyday life.

Getting around
Taxis are the most practical way to get around; the Circle Line and buses are slower but cheap. Downtown is walkable in the cooler hours.
The airport is about 15 km north of downtown; allow 45 minutes to an hour by taxi depending on traffic.
When to go
November to February is cooler and dry. March to May is extremely hot, and the monsoon from June to October brings heavy daily downpours.
