Overview
Kuwait City is a modern Gulf capital of highways, glass towers and enormous malls, set along a bay of the Persian Gulf. Oil wealth reshaped it in the 20th century, but pockets of older life survive in the souks and along the waterfront.
It is a conservative, quiet place by Gulf standards, and alcohol is banned. Come in winter, when the weather is mild enough for walking the corniche and lingering over dinner outdoors.

Getting around
Kuwait is built for cars, so taxis and ride-hailing apps are the easiest option; walking between areas is impractical in the heat.
Kuwait International Airport is about 20 to 30 minutes from the city centre by taxi.
When to go
November to March is warm and pleasant. Summers are among the hottest anywhere, often climbing above 45°C, and sandstorms can blow in from spring.
