Overview
Tel Aviv is Israel's easy-going coastal city, a place of long sandy beaches, a seafront promenade and late, sociable evenings. It was founded in 1909 beside the far older port of Jaffa, which is now part of the same municipality.
The centre is flat and compact, built largely in the 1930s in the white International Style that earned it UNESCO status. Days here tend to revolve around the beach, coffee and long meals.

Getting around
The centre is flat and good for walking, and the city's rental bikes and e-scooters are everywhere. Buses and the Red light-rail line take a Rav-Kav card, but much transport stops on Shabbat.
Trains from Ben Gurion Airport reach the city's stations in about 15 to 20 minutes, and taxis take around half an hour.
When to go
Spring and autumn bring warm sea and comfortable temperatures. Summers are hot and humid, while winters are mild with some rain. June's Pride parade is one of the biggest in the region.
