Overview

Limassol is Cyprus's second city and its liveliest: a long seafront of promenades and hotels with a compact old town of lanes, tavernas and a medieval castle at its centre.

It makes a handy base for the south coast. Within half an hour you can be among Roman mosaics at Kourion or up in the wine villages of the Troodos foothills.

Where to stay

Getting around

Buses run along the seafront, and the promenade is good for walking and cycling. A car helps for Kourion and the villages.

Airport shuttle buses link Limassol with Larnaca and Paphos airports, each in about an hour or less.

When to go

Spring and early autumn are warm and sunny, with the sea pleasant well into October. July and August are hot and busy, and winters are mild but quieter.
