Overview
Abidjan is Côte d'Ivoire's economic capital and one of West Africa's biggest cities, spread around the Ébrié Lagoon. The glass towers of the Plateau face residential Cocody across the water, while busy districts such as Treichville and Adjamé sprawl around them.
It is a confident, stylish city with a big appetite for music, football and food. Most visitors come for business, but it rewards a few extra days.

Getting around
Orange metered taxis are the easiest option, and ride-hailing apps work well. Traffic can be heavy, so allow plenty of time between districts.
The airport at Port-Bouët is around 30 to 45 minutes from the Plateau by taxi, depending on traffic.
When to go
December to March is the main dry season, hot but sunnier. The heaviest rains fall from May to July, with a shorter rainy spell around October and November.
