Be The Boss
Ticked off in 2008
The adventure
There's a moment when you stop making money for someone else and start building something of your own. Setting up a company in the UK can take an afternoon and cost very little, which is the easy part. The hard part is the rest: finding customers, doing your research, and having the nerve to back yourself. The usual advice is a good one: don't give up a steady income until the new thing is paying its way.
What it is
Being your own boss means running your own business.
How to do it
Start small alongside work, then build up.
Top tip
Get good advice on tax and contracts early.
My experience
Ticked off, but the full story is still to be written up.
