My Bucket List / Personal Goals
Be Fluent In A Foreign Language
Still to do
What it is
Being fluent in a foreign language opens up travel and culture.
How to do it
Combine lessons, apps and conversation practice, and spend time in a country where it's spoken.
Top tip
Immersion speeds up learning.
Why it’s on my list
Languages – their are thousands of languages and dialects in the world, many of which I will never use or even hear, but i would love to be able to be a polyglot.
To be able to travel freely and totally connect with the locals and speak their language instead of relying on a mix of gestures and broken words would be incredible, not just to make life easier, but to not feel like such a tourist.
So far I have learnt the basics in quite a few languages, but to be fluent I think you need total immersion in a culture – drop me off in a village in the middle of nowhere any day and come find me in a couple of months!
