Zip Down The World’s Longest Zipline Over Water
Still to do
Launch off a jungle headland and fly feet first over a turquoise Caribbean bay towards the beach.
The adventure
Dragon's Breath launches you from a platform high on a forested headland on Haiti's north coast and sends you flying out over the turquoise water of Labadee. Opened in 2009, it was billed as the longest zipline over water in the world, stretching around 800 metres, with riders reaching speeds of roughly 40 miles an hour.
The ride is quick and the views are huge: the curve of the bay, white beaches lined with palms, the green mountains of northern Haiti behind and the cruise ship moored at the pier looking like a toy. You fly in a harness with the wind roaring past and the sea flashing beneath you, before the brake catches you near the beach. Labadee is a private resort leased by Royal Caribbean, so for almost everyone the only way to ride it is as a day out from a cruise ship.
Why it’s epic
- Around 800 metres of zipline over the sea, among the longest over water anywhere.
- Speeds of up to roughly 40 miles an hour.
- Views across Labadee's bays and the mountains of northern Haiti.
- A beach day at Labadee's private resort before or after your ride.
What it is
Dragon's Breath at Labadee was built as one of the longest ziplines over water.
How to do it
Labadee is a private resort mainly reached on Royal Caribbean cruises.
Top tip
Check UK Foreign Office advice for Haiti.
Need to know
- Labadee is reached almost only on Royal Caribbean cruises, and calls have been cancelled at times because of the security situation in Haiti.
- The UK Foreign Office advises against travel to Haiti, so check whether your insurance covers a stop there.
- Book the zipline through the cruise line ahead of time, as places sell out and there are weight limits.
